    Summary

A novel surgical technique effectively covers root-filled teeth using combined buccolingual mucosal flaps. This method significantly improves healing outcomes for patients undergoing dental extractions and denture treatment.

    Area of Science:

    • Oral surgery
    • Periodontology
    • Restorative dentistry

    Background:

    • Root-filled teeth can pose challenges for denture support.
    • Existing methods for covering root remnants may have limitations.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To present a new surgical technique for covering single root-filled roots.
    • To evaluate the efficacy and healing outcomes of this novel method.

    Main Methods:

    • A combined buccal trapezoid flap and lingual bridge-shaped flap were used to cover crown-resected, root-filled roots.
    • The technique was applied to 17 patients undergoing full denture treatment.
    • Outcomes were assessed after a 2-month follow-up period.

    Main Results:

    • Initial attempts using a single buccal flap resulted in poor healing (5/11 uneventful).
    • Modification to a combined buccolingual flap significantly improved outcomes.
    • Fifteen out of sixteen cases using the combined flap achieved primary, uneventful healing.

    Conclusions:

    • The combined buccolingual flap technique is a reliable and effective method for covering root-filled roots.
    • This approach enhances healing and is suitable for patients requiring full denture treatment.
