Summary

Flunarizine (Fz) was ineffective for treating moderate to severe essential tremor in a small patient group. The drug did not improve symptoms and, in some cases, worsened tremor, leading to no patients continuing treatment.

  • A study was conducted on 10 patients with moderate to severe essential tremor.
  • Treatment with flunarizine (Fz) lasted for 6 weeks.
  • Tremor severity was assessed via patient and physician evaluations and blinded video analysis.

Main Results:

  • Only one patient reported mild, temporary subjective improvement.
  • Three patients experienced worsening of their tremor.
  • No patient chose to continue flunarizine (Fz) treatment post-study.

Conclusions:

  • Flunarizine (Fz) is ineffective for moderate to severe essential tremor.
  • Flunarizine (Fz) may exacerbate tremor symptoms in some individuals.
