    Cranioplast demonstrated the best biocompatibility among four methyl methacrylate bone substitutes. This bone void filler evoked the least inflammatory response in animal studies.

    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To compare the biologic performance of four methyl methacrylate bone substitutes.
    • To assess the inflammatory response and bone healing potential of different materials.

    Main Methods:

    • Bilateral multiple bone defects were created in the femurs of rhesus monkeys and mongrel dogs.
    • Four methyl methacrylate bone substitutes (Cranioplast, Adaptic, Sevitron, Lucitone) were implanted.
    • Animals were sacrificed at 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 weeks postoperatively for examination.

    Main Results:

    • The findings suggest Cranioplast's potential for use in bone defect repair.
    • Further clinical investigation is warranted to confirm these preclinical findings.
