[Paraneoplastic cerebral venous thrombosis]

Summary

A patient with tongue cancer developed increased intracranial pressure due to dural venous sinus occlusion. Treatment with anticoagulation successfully reopened the sinuses, resolving the condition.

Background:

Epidermoid carcinoma of the tongue can present with rare neurological complications.
Cranial hypertension is a serious condition requiring prompt diagnosis and management.

Observation:

A 45-year-old patient with tongue cancer exhibited symptoms of cranial hypertension.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) revealed dural venous sinus occlusion without evidence of tumor infiltration.

Findings:

Anticoagulation therapy was initiated for the venous sinus occlusion.
Follow-up MRI at three months demonstrated successful recanalization of the occluded sinuses.

Implications:

This case highlights a rare paraneoplastic cerebral venous thrombosis associated with epidermoid carcinoma.
Understanding the pathophysiology of paraneoplastic cerebral venous thrombosis is crucial for effective treatment strategies.
Cerebral venous thrombosis should be considered in cancer patients presenting with unexplained neurological symptoms.
