    Background:

    • The renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) plays a crucial role in regulating blood pressure and fluid balance.
    • Psychological stressors are known to influence various physiological systems, but their specific impact on the RAAS requires further elucidation.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the effect of a Sidman avoidance operant conditioning schedule on plasma renin activity and renin substrate concentration in baboons.
    • To determine if psychological stimuli can modulate key components of the RAAS.

    Main Methods:

    • Baboons (Papio cynocephalus) were subjected to a 3-hour Sidman avoidance operant conditioning schedule (lever pressing to avoid electric shock).
    • Plasma samples were collected over a 24-hour period on both control and test days.
