Area of Science:

  • Dermatology
  • Histopathology

Background:

  • Erythema annulare centrifugum (EAC) is an uncommon reactive erythema.
  • Distinguishing EAC from other annular erythema, particularly psoriasis, can be challenging clinically and histologically.

Observation:

  • A unique case of squamous EAC with distinct clinical presentation was observed.
  • Histological examination revealed peculiar findings, including keratinocyte necrosis.

Findings:

  • No specific causative factors were identified for this EAC case.
  • Treatment with Brocq's tar ointment resulted in rapid and complete resolution of lesions.
  • The case lacked the characteristic features typically associated with annular psoriasis.

Implications:

Related Experiment Videos

  • This case highlights the diverse clinical and histological spectrum of erythema annulare centrifugum.
  • The rapid response to tar ointment suggests a potential therapeutic option for similar presentations.
  • Understanding these unique features aids in differentiating EAC from other papulosquamous disorders.
