Summary
Elevated soluble CD8 (sCD8) levels correlate with muscle inflammation in polymyositis/dermatomyositis patients. sCD8 concentrations decreased with improved muscle enzyme levels, suggesting CD8+ cell activation is linked to muscle damage.
Area of Science:
- Immunology
- Rheumatology
- Clinical Medicine
Background:
- Polymyositis and dermatomyositis (PM/DM) are inflammatory myopathies.
- The role of T-cell subsets, specifically CD8+ T-cells, in PM/DM pathogenesis requires further elucidation.
