Abstract:
The porphyrias are a group of uncommon inherited disorders caused by an accumulation of porphyrins in the body. This paper identifies many of the individuals in the royal houses of Stuart, Hanover, and Prussia who were afflicted with this condition, and highlights the impact this disease had on the history of England.
