Area of Science:

  • Gastroenterology
  • Surgical Innovation
  • Biliary Tract Surgery

Background:

  • Gallstone disease often necessitates surgical intervention.
  • Standard cholecystectomy may be technically challenging in certain cases.
  • Partial cholecystectomy involves retaining a portion of the gallbladder wall.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the safety and efficacy of partial cholecystectomy.
  • To assess outcomes in patients with difficult cholecystectomy scenarios.
  • To compare partial cholecystectomy with standard procedures.

Main Methods:

  • A retrospective analysis of 40 patients undergoing partial cholecystectomy.
  • Indications included chronic/acute cholecystitis, Mirizzi's syndrome, and difficult access.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Follow-up assessed complications and long-term symptoms.
  • Main Results:

    • The procedure was performed for various gall bladder conditions.
    • Infective complications occurred in 10% of patients.
    • Mild dyspeptic symptoms were reported by only 3 patients post-procedure.

    Conclusions:

    • Partial cholecystectomy is a safe and effective approach for complex gall bladder surgeries.
    • It combines advantages of both cholecystectomy and cholecystostomy.
    • The technique is beneficial in challenging surgical situations.
