[Lyme carditis--case report]

    Background:

    • Lyme disease, a tick-borne illness, can affect multiple organ systems.
    • Cardiac involvement in Lyme disease can range from mild conduction abnormalities to complete heart block.

    Observation:

    • A patient presented with Lyme disease-related circulatory disorders, including complete atrioventricular (AV) block and ventricular rhythm disturbances.
    • The patient also experienced transient dermatologic and neurologic symptoms during the acute illness phase.

    Findings:

    • Despite the severe cardiac manifestations, the patient did not receive antibiotic treatment.
    • One year post-illness, the patient remained asymptomatic, with no late-onset Lyme disease sequelae observed.

    Implications:

    • This case suggests that some individuals with Lyme carditis may spontaneously recover without antibiotic intervention.
    • Further research is needed to understand the factors influencing spontaneous resolution and long-term prognosis in Lyme disease patients with cardiac involvement.
