Continuous ventilation protects against lung injury during ischemia, while allopurinol offers protection beyond inhibiting xanthine oxidase (XO). Mechanical alveolar movement preserves ischemic lungs effectively.

  • To investigate the protective effects of continuous ventilation and allopurinol on ischaemia-reperfusion lung injury in an isolated perfused rat lung model.
