Summary

Serum interleukin-8 (IL-8) levels showed higher concentrations in active ulcerative colitis but did not reliably indicate disease activity in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). IL-8 levels decreased after dietary treatment, suggesting a role in inflammation but poor disease marker utility.
