    Background:

    • Chagas' disease can cause megaesophagus, a severe esophageal motility disorder.
    • Vigorous achalasia, characterized by specific manometric findings, is often observed in these patients.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the manometric effects of Thal's fundic patch operation in patients with Chagas' megaesophagus.
    • To assess the efficacy of the surgical intervention in improving esophageal motility.

    Main Methods:

    • Esophageal manometry was performed before and after Thal's fundic patch operation.
    • Preoperative manometry revealed synchronous, low-peak-pressure, repetitive waves (vigorous achalasia) in most patients.
    • Postoperative manometry assessed changes in esophageal motility patterns.
