Background:

  • Ureteral amyloidosis is a rare condition often mistaken for ureteral malignancy due to ureteral stenosis.
  • The etiology of localized amyloidosis, characterized by lambda light chains, remains unknown.
  • Ureteral calcifications are considered a potential pathognomonic sign.

Observation:

  • A case of bilateral ureteral amyloidosis presenting with anuria was observed.
  • The patient underwent conservative surgical management.
  • Treatment also included colchicine therapy.

Findings:

  • Conservative surgery and colchicine effectively treated bilateral ureteral amyloidosis.
  • The patient's renal function improved significantly post-treatment.
  • No recurrence was observed during a 5-year follow-up period.

Implications:

  • Preoperative diagnosis of ureteral amyloidosis necessitates planning for renal-sparing surgery.
  • Conservative management with colchicine can be a viable option for ureteral amyloidosis.
  • This approach offers a favorable long-term prognosis for renal function preservation.
