[Risk groups and morbidity of tuberculosis among outpatients of pediatric clinics]
Insights
Children with somatic diseases in pediatric clinics require tuberculosis risk assessment. Those with combined gastrointestinal and respiratory issues need special attention for tuberculosis prevention.
Area of Science:
- Pediatrics
- Infectious Diseases
- Public Health
Context:
- Pediatric outpatient departments manage children with various somatic diseases.
- Tuberculosis (TB) remains a significant public health concern, particularly in vulnerable populations.
- Identifying children at high risk for TB is crucial for effective prevention strategies.
Purpose:
- To identify children with somatic diseases who are at increased risk for tuberculosis.
- To guide differential approaches in prophylactic measures and tuberculosis risk prognosis for pediatric patients.
Summary:
- Children with somatic diseases followed in pediatric outpatient departments should be stratified into tuberculosis risk groups.
- Particular focus is recommended for children with co-occurring gastrointestinal and respiratory conditions.
- Phthisiologic risk is comparable to healthy children for those with cardiovascular, skin, or collagen diseases.
Impact:
- Informs targeted tuberculosis screening and prevention programs in pediatric care.
- Facilitates personalized risk assessment and management for children with chronic conditions.
- Aims to reduce the burden of tuberculosis in pediatric populations through early identification and intervention.
Abstract:
The author's investigations demonstrate that children with somatic diseases registered for follow-up in pediatric outpatient departments should be referred to risk groups by tuberculosis. Special attention should be paid to children with a combination of gastrointestinal lesions with respiratory diseases. Phthisiologic risk in children with cardiovascular, skin affections and collagenoses is close to such in healthy subjects. It is recommended to use a differential approach to prophylactic measures in children followed up in outpatient departments and to prognosis of tuberculosis risk in them.
