Summary

This study compared the mechanical properties of polycaprolactone to acrylic resin for use in custom dental impression trays. The elastic modulus of polycaprolactone was found to be lower than that of acrylic resin, indicating it is more flexible. However, when placed under load, the material deformed but fully recovered within less than 30 seconds. This recovery time is considered clinically insignificant, suggesting that polycaprolactone could be a suitable alternative to acrylic resin for custom trays. The findings indicate that despite its lower rigidity, polycaprolactone's deformation and recovery behavior supports its use in dental applications.
