Colon adenocarcinoma in HIV infection: a case report and review

Gastrointestinal adenocarcinoma is a disease seen uncommonly in HIV-infected patients. The present case is that of a 25-yr-old black male who was HIV positive and developed right-sided colon adenocarcinoma. This case is an example of the growing number of adenocarcinomas of the gastrointestinal tract being reported in HIV patients. Cases of gastric, pancreatic, and colonic adenocarcinoma in HIV patients are reviewed herein. It seems possible that HIV may play an etiologic role in the increased chance of developing gastrointestinal adenocarcinoma.
