Summary
Spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) have higher levels of ouabain-like activity (OLA) in their plasma than Wistar-Kyoto rats (WKY). Increasing dietary calcium reduced OLA in SHR, but authentic ouabain did not account for the elevated OLA in SHR plasma.
