Background:

Primary syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection caused by Treponema pallidum.
The classic presentation of a primary syphilitic chancre is a painless, indurated ulcer.
Existing medical literature may not fully capture the spectrum of syphilitic chancre presentations.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the clinical presentation of primary syphilis chancres in male patients.
To compare observed clinical findings with descriptions in venereology textbooks.
To identify potential discrepancies that could impact diagnosis.

Main Methods:

Review of medical records for 20 consecutive male patients diagnosed with primary syphilis.
Comparative analysis of patient data against information from 23 venereology textbooks.
Clinical assessment of chancre characteristics, including pain and induration.

Main Results:

Syphilitic chancres were observed to be painful in some cases.
The characteristic induration was absent in a subset of the reviewed cases.
