Summary

Squatting during defecation does not reduce pelvic floor descent. This study found no significant difference between sitting and squatting positions, suggesting squatting may not prevent nerve damage related to incontinence.

Background:

  • Neurogenic incontinence stems from pelvic nerve damage, often due to childbirth or straining.
  • The squatting position during defecation is hypothesized to reduce pelvic floor strain and incontinence incidence.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To prospectively evaluate pelvic floor position during defecation straining in different positions.
  • To determine if squatting minimizes pelvic floor descent compared to sitting or lateral positions.
