[Afterloading intracavitary irradiation therapy for cancer of uterine cervix]
1Zhejiang Cancer Hospital, Hangzhou.
Abstract:
A retrospective analysis was made from 490 patients with carcinoma of uterine cervix who were treated with medial-dose-rate remote afterloading intracavitary irradiation by 137Cs sources in our hospital from 1986 to 1987. At the same time, the results were compared with those of the low-dose-rate intracavitary irradiation therapy. There were 10 cases with stage Ib, 366 with stage IIb and 114 with stage IIIb. The Absolute 5-year survival rate of stage Ib, IIb and IIIb was 90%, 66.1% and 56.1%, respectively. It was clearly demonstrated that the optimal dose should be 55Gy. A fraction of 6-7Gy dose was used once per week. The article suggests that the clinical results by medial-dose-rate afterloading intracavitary irradiation therapy for cancer of uterine cervix are similar to those by the low-dose-rate technique.
