Summary

Extracorporeal photochemotherapy (ECP) improved symptoms and skin manifestations in patients with progressive systemic sclerosis (PSS). This immune-modulating therapy showed significant benefits with no serious side effects in early PSS cases.

Augmenting cognitive behaviour therapy for post-traumatic stress disorder with emotion tolerance training: a randomized controlled trial.

Background:

  • Extracorporeal photochemotherapy (ECP) is an immune-modulating therapy with demonstrated efficacy in autoimmune diseases.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the therapeutic effects of ECP in patients diagnosed with active progressive systemic sclerosis.

Main Methods:

  • Nine patients with active PSS underwent ECP treatment over 2 consecutive days each month.
  • Therapy duration varied between 6 and 21 months for the participating patients.

  • Significant improvements were observed in skin condition, musculoskeletal function, and overall functional index.
