Abstract:
Artificial ventilatory support can lead to many undesirable cardiac and pulmonary side effects. Adapting conventional modes of ventilation or using alternative modes of pulmonary support can optimize oxygen delivery and minimize cardiopulmonary complications. By assessing cardiopulmonary effects of mechanical ventilatory support, the critical care nurse can help identify and reduce potential complications for critically ill patients and improve patient outcomes.
