How gender determines the causes of smoking: a preliminary report
1Department of Sociology, University of Connecticut, Storrs 06269.
Abstract:
Analyses of a national sample of 849 adults indicated that gender conditioned the effects of several variables on tobacco smoking. Interaction tests indicated that religiosity deterred only women's smoking, while satisfaction with financial status inhibited only men's smoking. The experience of physical violence during childhood promoted smoking only among men.
