Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the relationship between cocaine dependence and personality disorders.

  • Administered a modified Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-III-R Personality Disorders (SCID-II) to 50 hospitalized cocaine-dependent patients.
  • Assessed the presence of personality traits during drug use, abstinence, or both.
  • Analyzed the stability of Axis II diagnoses in relation to drug use patterns.

Main Results:

  • 74% of patients received at least one Axis II diagnosis.
  • 69% of these diagnoses were present during both drug use and abstinence periods.
