Summary

Nasal ciliary ultrastructure abnormalities were common in patients with perennial nasal symptoms. However, these defects showed a poor correlation with impaired ciliary function, suggesting other causes may be involved.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To measure nasal ciliary function and examine ciliary ultrastructure in patients with perennial nasal symptoms.
  • To assess the correlation between ultrastructural defects and impaired ciliary function.

  • Nasal brushings were collected from 35 patients with refractory perennial nasal symptoms and controls.
  • Ciliary function was measured, and ciliary ultrastructure was examined using electron microscopy.
