Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the safety and efficacy of laparoscopic cholecystectomy in patients with acute cholecystitis.

  • A retrospective review of 110 laparoscopic cholecystectomies performed between June 1990 and October 1991.
  • Included 29 patients with pathologically confirmed acute cholecystitis, with nine having severe complications (gangrene, perforation, abscess).
