Area of Science:

  • Urogynecology
  • Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery

Background:

  • Post-hysterectomy vaginal prolapse is a common complication.
  • Surgical intervention is often required to restore pelvic organ support.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To review surgical outcomes for post-hysterectomy vaginal prolapse.
  • To evaluate the efficacy of different surgical techniques.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective review of nine cases treated surgically.
  • Analysis of abdominal sacral colpopexy, with and without additional procedures.

Main Results:

  • Two recurrences occurred with abdominal sacral colpopexy alone.
  • Combined procedures (culdoplasty and colposuspension) improved cure rates.
  • Additional procedures increased mean operative time.

Conclusions:

  • Combined surgical approach is superior for treating post-hysterectomy vaginal prolapse.
  • Restoration of vaginal anatomy and function is best achieved with combined surgery.
