    Summary

    Area of Science:

    • Reproductive endocrinology and infertility management.

    Background:

    • Pergonal (human menopausal gonadotropin) therapy is used to stimulate ovulation.
    • Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) is a potential complication of gonadotropin therapy.

    Observation:

    • A case of severe OHSS occurred secondary to Pergonal treatment.
    • The patient's condition required intensive management.

    Findings:

    • Successful management was achieved through severe sodium and fluid restriction.
    • Volume expanders were not utilized in this therapeutic strategy.

    Implications:

    • This case highlights the importance of rigorous monitoring despite advancements.
    • Laboratory errors remain a potential risk factor for iatrogenic OHSS.
    • Strict fluid and sodium restriction can be a primary management tool for OHSS.
