Abstract:
A cooperative model applied to hydrogen ligand binding curves of normal human hemoglobin indicates that the Bohr effect is a cooperative (n) change rather than a pK shift. The analysis suggests a molecular mechanism whose energetic justification acquires a specific physiological significance.
