Purpose of the Study:

To describe the lived experience of a caring climate among junior nursing students within their peer groups.
To explore the specific behaviors and interactional dynamics that constitute a caring climate in nursing education.
To identify factors influencing the perception of a caring climate during peer interactions.

Main Methods:

Qualitative descriptive study utilizing a phenomenological approach.
Data collected from 10 junior nursing students across five baccalaureate nursing programs.
Focus on in-depth descriptions of experienced peer group interactions and perceived caring behaviors.

Main Results:

A climate for caring is primarily experienced through observable peer behaviors perceived as supportive and helpful.
Peer interactional episodes characterized by mutual assistance were central to experiencing a caring climate.
Student vulnerability and established personal knowledge of peers emerged as key mediating factors.

Caring climates in nursing education are co-constructed through peer interactions and perceived supportive actions.
Addressing student vulnerability and fostering deeper peer relationships can enhance the experience of a caring climate.
