Steroid hormone receptors

Tremendous advances have been made in understanding the fundamental mechanisms of steroid hormone action. The cloning of the genes that encode classic steroid hormone receptors revealed that these receptors are but part of a large family of ligand-responsive transcriptional regulators. This fundamental advance has already contributed greatly to our understanding of a variety of diseases, particularly cancer, and the total dividend has not yet been realized. Steroid receptors have been and will be a fruitful area of research for many years.
