Summary

Seminal vesicle calculus, a rare condition, was previously undescribed in children. This case highlights a diagnostic error where a seminal vesicle stone was mistaken for a bladder stone, leading to unnecessary surgery.

Area of Science:

  • Urology
  • Pediatric Surgery
  • Diagnostic Imaging

Background:

  • Seminal vesicle calculus is a rare condition.
  • Its occurrence in pediatric patients has not been previously documented in medical literature.

Observation:

  • A case report details a pediatric patient with a seminal vesicle calculus.
  • The calculus was initially misdiagnosed as a bladder stone on imaging.

Findings:

  • The seminal vesicle calculus was mistakenly identified as intravesical.
  • This misdiagnosis led to an unnecessary surgical procedure (cystolithotomy).

Implications:

  • Highlights the importance of accurate pre-operative diagnosis in pediatric urology.
  • Suggests considering seminal vesicle pathology in the differential diagnosis of pediatric bladder stones.
