    Summary

    Liver extracts from regenerating dog livers stimulate liver cell proliferation and counteract atrophy. This suggests a novel growth-control factor distinct from insulin or glucagon is present.

    • Portacaval shunts (Eck fistula) induce liver atrophy and hepatocyte damage.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the effect of regenerating liver extracts on liver regeneration and atrophy.
    • To identify potential growth-control factors in regenerating liver tissue.
