Abstract:
Alterations in pigmentation of the skin are commonly encountered as a patient's primary reason for seeking medical care. They may be discovered as incidental findings on examination of the skin. The physician should be able to recognize and treat some of the common pigmentary disorders and to make referrals when appropriate. It is important to be aware of associations of pigmentary changes with systemic diseases.
