Nonsurgical management of disorders of the forefoot

This article reviews some of the conservative methods used by many podiatric physicians to manage common forefoot pathologic conditions identified in the geriatric population. It is essential that the podiatric physician take an accurate history and perform a comprehensive physical to determine the exact nature of the pathologic condition. Treatment should be directed at the causative factor(s) and be realistic, with all treatment having concern for the patient's well-being. Reasonable treatment goals must be established for the individual, with the ultimate goal being maintenance of ambulatory status.
