Summary

Glomerular epithelial cells synthesize and release endothelin-1 (ET-1), a peptide impacting blood vessel constriction. Inflammatory molecules significantly boost ET-1 production in these cells, suggesting a key role in kidney function.

Background:

  • Endothelin-1 (ET-1) is a potent vasoactive peptide known for its effects on smooth muscle and mesangial cells.
  • The role of glomerular epithelial cells (GECs) as a source of ET-1 has not been fully elucidated.
