Health visitors' perceptions of their role

A new era of demonstrable cost effectiveness in the health service has made health visitors more nervous, perhaps, than any other group of health workers. Their job involves 'unquantifiable' activities like support, prevention and health promotion. The irony is, that these activities are every bit as vital as they are hard to measure, writes Michael Traynor.
