    Area of Science:

    • Cardiology
    • Pharmacology
    • Nephrology

    Background:

    • Hypertension is a prevalent cardiovascular condition requiring effective and safe treatment options.
    • Diuretics are commonly used in hypertension management, but their metabolic effects require careful monitoring.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the efficacy and safety of indapamide in hypertensive patients.
    • To assess the impact of indapamide on blood pressure, electrolytes, and renal function.

    Main Methods:

    • A 30-day study involving 16 hypertensive patients.
    • Administration of 2.5 mg/day indapamide.
    • Monitoring of systolic and diastolic blood pressure, plasma and urinary electrolytes, and renal performance.

    Main Results:

    • A gradual and significant reduction in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure was observed.
    • No significant alterations in plasma and urinary electrolytes were detected.
    • No changes in other metabolic parameters or renal performance were noted.

    Conclusions:

    • Indapamide demonstrates a safe and lasting hypotensive action in hypertensive individuals.
    • The drug appears to be well-tolerated with a favorable metabolic and renal safety profile.
