Summary

Strict hygienic protocols in cardiac surgery significantly reduce sternal infections, a major complication, especially after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) using the internal thoracic artery (ITA). Adherence to these measures led to a notable decrease in postoperative sternal infections.
