Abstract:
1. Increasing numbers of children are becoming dependent on substances. 2. Although the Children Act 1989 gives children the right to refuse treatment, nurses must take steps to gain their trust and confidence. 3. Staff, working with children who misuse drugs need support and guidance. 4. Recommendations are set out which aim to enable health professionals to respect clients' confidentiality and to meet the requirements of the UKCC Code of Conduct.
