Abstract:
Panic attacks and panic disorder often first present in the emergency room or to the family practitioner. The presentation and differential diagnosis of this disabling disorder are described in this review, together with the etiology and health effects of the syndrome. Both medication and psychological treatments are described, as are the indications, side effects, and expected outcome for each therapy alone and in combination.
