Summary

Campomelic dysplasia (CD), a rare skeletal disorder, may be significantly under-reported. This study found a higher incidence in Norway than previously documented, suggesting more cases go undiagnosed.

Background:

  • Campomelic dysplasia (CD) is a rare, severe skeletal dysplasia with a reported incidence of 0.05-0.09 per 10,000 live births.

Observation:

  • A study at Aker University Hospital, Oslo, Norway, recorded 4 cases of CD among 18,350 live births between December 1985 and December 1990.
  • This yielded an observed incidence of 2.2 per 10,000 live births.
  • Excluding one case of Pakistani descent, the incidence among Norwegian infants was 1.6 per 10,000.
