Background:

  • Previous studies showed enhanced synovial fluid (SF) antigen-presenting cell (APC) function in specific inflammatory arthritis cases.
  • The role of APCs in other inflammatory arthritis forms, like rheumatoid arthritis (RA), remains less understood.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate whether enhanced SF APC function is a general characteristic of inflammatory arthritis.
  • To assess SF APC function in rheumatoid arthritis patients not pre-selected for mononuclear cell responsiveness.

  • Utilized two assay systems to evaluate SF APC function in 18 rheumatoid arthritis patients.
