Summary

Temporal lobectomy improved illogical thinking in children with epilepsy, but did not significantly affect their speech coherence. Further research is needed to understand postsurgical changes.

Background:

  • Formal thought disorder and discourse deficits are observed in children with complex partial seizure disorder.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To prospectively evaluate formal thought disorder and discourse in children before and after temporal lobectomy.
  • To determine the impact of temporal lobectomy on cognitive and linguistic functions in pediatric epilepsy patients.

  • Assessed formal thought disorder and discourse measures in 7 children (5.7-16.7 years) undergoing temporal lobectomy.
