[Hemolytic components of anemia in patients with long-term hemodialysis]

Hemolysis was investigated in 12 patients on chronic dialysis. A hemolytic component was evaluated by estimation of free hemoglobin concentration, elevated activity of red cell enzymes as well as by reduction of red cell life span to 2/3 of normal. Only in one case where the patient suffered also from familial hemolytic jaundice, splenectomy was necessary.
