Abstract:
Peripheral and central mechanisms involved in generation, modulation and perception of pain are discussed. Lesions of peripheral nerves are a particular cause of pain, which has to be recognized as such, as it requires specific therapeutic measures. Emphasis is put on the role of ephaptic transmission.
