Area of Science:

  • Oral pathology
  • Vascular anomalies
  • Histopathology

Background:

  • Pedunculated lesions of the oral mucosa can present diagnostic challenges.
  • Distinguishing benign tumors like fibromas from vascular malformations is crucial for appropriate management.

Observation:

  • A case of a pedunculated oral mucosal lesion is presented.
  • Clinical diagnosis suggested an irritation fibroma due to its appearance.
  • The lesion was surgically removed via excisional biopsy.

Findings:

  • Histologic examination revealed the lesion to be a cavernous hemangioma.
  • The clinical diagnosis of fibroma was inaccurate.

Implications:

  • This case underscores the necessity of histopathological examination for definitive diagnosis of oral mucosal lesions.
