[Acute cholecystitis caused by cystic polyp]

Summary

A 72-year-old woman experienced acute cholecystitis due to a gallbladder polyp obstructing the cystic duct. Ultrasound confirmed the diagnosis, and the patient recovered fully.

Adenomatous polyps can potentially cause complications like biliary obstruction.

Observation:

A 72-year-old female presented with symptoms of acute cholecystitis.
Ultrasonography revealed a 5 mm adenomatous polyp obstructing the cystic duct.

Findings:

The patient's acute cholecystitis was directly attributed to the gallbladder adenomatous polyp.
The diagnosis was confirmed via ultrasonographic imaging.

Implications:

This case highlights the importance of ultrasonography in diagnosing gallbladder polyps.
Prompt diagnosis and management of gallbladder polyps can prevent complications such as acute cholecystitis.
