Summary

Templeton's Test detects sperm in peritoneal fluid after intrauterine insemination. This reproductive test is highly useful for diagnosing male factor infertility and endometriosis.

Background:

  • The function of peritoneal fluid in reproductive processes, including gamete transport and survival, is not well understood.
  • Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a common infertility treatment.

Observation:

  • Sperm presence in peritoneal fluid was assessed using diagnostic laparoscopy following IUI with husband's sperm (Templeton's Test).
  • Patients undergoing Templeton's Test provided peritoneal fluid samples.

Findings:

  • In patients with cervical factor infertility, six mobile spermatozoa (85% motility) were observed in peritoneal fluid.
  • In patients with male factor infertility, three mobile spermatozoa (42% motility) were observed.
  • In patients with idiopathic infertility, one mobile spermatozoon (25% motility) was observed.

Implications:

  • Templeton's Test demonstrates significant utility in evaluating infertility.
  • The test is particularly valuable for diagnosing male factor infertility and endometriosis.
  • Further research into peritoneal fluid's reproductive role is warranted.
